Beier’s Greenhouse was a dream of Melvin and Lucy Beier that began when they were young. With Lucy’s family passion for flowers and Melvin’s love for agriculture and business, the desires of owning a greenhouse were in the making. In 1957, they were blessed in being able to make that dream of owning and operating a greenhouse come true.

Hard work, dedication and knowledge were virtues that Melvin and Lucy Beier instilled in their children and to the operation of the greenhouse. Being a family owned business meant that the children all had the experience of learning the sacrifices and rewards that were the results of hard work and dedication. The wisdom and practices that were passed down through the family would later lead to the purchase of the business from Melvin and Lucy, to their youngest daughter, Bonnie in 1977.

Today, Bonnie and Blake Stotts and their children, continue to carry on the business of promoting the values of great customer service and quality plants. From new plant innovation to informative classes, Beier’s Greenhouse is dedicated to providing the customer with the traditional favorites and all the latest trends. For over 50 years, Beier’s Greenhouse has provided superior plants and nursery stock that is hand selected for the northern gardener in mind. With a wide selection of annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, trees, shrubs, bulbs, vegetables & herbs, beautiful containers and unique garden décor for your home, we look forward to serving you in all the years to come!

History

Hardworking, family oriented, active and caring— these are just a few words that describe Melvin and Lucille Beier.

Having retired from the greenhouse business and wanting to do something for the community, the Beier Family contacted the Community Foundation. Melvin and Lucille found out about Charitable Gift Annuities.  They discovered they could give a substantial gift to the Community Foundation to through an annuity. They would receive an annual distribution of 8.5% of the total gift (based on their ages) for the rest of both of their lives. The Beiers also received an immediate tax deduction, as well as additional annual tax benefits.  After they passed away, the remainder of the annuity went towards a scholarship for an Itasca County resident advancing their education after high school.  This represents a major possibility for people who do not ordinarily have many scholarship opportunities.  From students in need, to non-traditional students (over the age of 25) who are motivated to go back to school, the Melvin and Lucille Beier Family Scholarship will be a valuable vehicle to bring about change. It is a strong symbol of the values of this hardworking family—the seven successful children, as well as the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The grand kids are growing up big and strong! They really enjoyed the greenhouse this summer! Karsten & Lily will be working here before you know it!
