Perennial Hardiness Standards
Perennials listed as Zone 4 are considered not hardy for our zone.
Grand Rapids and most of the surrounding area is classified as Zone 3b.

However, there are many Zone 4 perennials that have been successfully grown in our area. Always mulch Zone 4 and new perennials in the fall to provide adequate winter protections. We suggest doing this for all your perennials.

Remember that the USDA hardiness Zone Map is created based on average minimum temperatures and should only be used as a general guide.

In addition to zones, plan maintenance and
care is just as important to determine hardiness in this area.
